Liberation Lasers Workshop

Liberation is a free software download widely considered the next generation of Lasershow control software. Join us for a workshop guided by Dustin L. Derry, CEO and Laser Safety Officer of Stonewolf Studios.
Gain knowledge of industry lasers, in-practice and on paper laser safety, basic laser setups, and a foundational knowledge of a Liberation Laser. This workshop dives into laser physics and history, as well as laser evolution in the entertainment industry. Get a demo of several different power levels and how to set safe zones, then follow along with Liberation workflow and basics!
By the end of our Liberation Lasers workshop, you'll walk away from the day with functional knowledge of different types of laser sources, how they're used in today's industry, and a detailed understanding of Laser Show Safety, Laws and Regulations governing lasers in the show industry.
Dustin L. Derry
CEO and Laser Safety Officer of Stonewolf Studios
Dustin is a graduate of National-Louis University where he earned a BA in technical theatre/lighting design. Most of his early career, he spent working as the Lighting Director and House Master Electrician at the North Shore for Performing Arts in Skokie (NSCPAS) while also feelanceing a lighting designer focused mainly in dance and musicals.
Dustin's work has been seen on stages in 9 countries ranging from Canada to the UK and Japan. Some of his more notable dance projects have been with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, The Moscow Ballet, Deeply Rooted Dance, Ensenble Espanol, as many more.
As his career progressed, Dustin found himself designing lighting for large scale corporate events with clients like Beam-Suntory, Hearts on Fire Diamonds, and Google as well as e-sprts events like 'Paladins' World Championships and many 'Fortnite' events.
Around 2015, Mr. Derry was given a unique opportunity to create a unique special effect for a dance show using Stonewolf's first lasers. From that moment on, Dustin has transtitioned into the role of a Laser Show Designer and Laser Safety Officer.
His lasershows have been enjoyed by audiences nationwide, usually in some large scale ourdoor format. Notable laser designs include designing the laser system and preshow for the NHL's Seattle Kraken, collaborations with Lightswitch for 'Illumination' at Morton Arboretum (voted best holiday light show in the US multiple times), 'Enlighten' at Meijer Gardens (also voted best holiday light show in subsequent years), and even Hershey Park where his lasers helped tell the story of 'The Coven's Curse' a new scare zone in the park. More recently, Dustin was part of a three-person creative team that won 'Most Creative Use of Light' at LDI 2025 for the laser work done at the Elation Lighting / X-Laser Booths.
