Youth Educator & Outreach Coordinator
Position: Youth Educator & Outreach Coordinator
Department: Education, admin, and event production
Reports to: Staff Coordinator
Status: Full-Time
Compensation: $25 per hour
Duration: One year position with the option for renewal
Overview
Tech 25’s mission is to provide educational programming and access to entry level jobs in the event technology industry. We prepare students for careers in the production industries through workshops, hands on mentoring, and apprenticeships connected to onsite and regional professional productions.
Job Summary
The Engagement & Youth Educator Position is responsible for teaching youth facing programs, afterschool programs, summer camps, in-school & off-site youth programs, as well as related programming at Tech 25. This role combines fastly evolving technical instruction, youth mentorship, and participation in live event production.
This position requires hours for on and off-site outreach opportunities such as tabling at local conferences and schools to recruit interested students into Tech 25 youth facing programs.
The Educator will guide students through foundational audio principles, music production, basic lighting setups, and live sound essentials while helping them develop career awareness in the event production industry. This role begins primarily as a Start on Success instructor and off-site outreach position with the opportunity to grow into a program lead and contribute to new class development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Youth program instruction
- Off-site youth engagement and outreach
Responsibilities include:
- Teaching audio fundamentals, music production, podcasting, DJ, and media creation
- Following weekly program structures and activity rotations
- Creating a positive and supportive learning environment
- Mentoring youth participants and serving as a professional role model
- Supporting student progress and skill development
Deliverables may include:
- Audio files from student music projects created in Ableton Live and/or FL Studio
- Videos from student editing and podcast projects
- Photos and videos showcasing lighting or sound setups
- Interviews with students about their learning experiences
Possible Event Production support responsibilities include:
- Supporting sound, lighting, or A/V systems
- Involving students in setup and breakdown as educational experiences
- Helping create teachable moments during real production work
- Reporting damaged or broken equipment to the Warehouse Manager
- Suggesting new events, workshops, or production activities
Qualifications and Skills:
- Basic understanding of audio principles and digital recording
- Experience with FL Studio, Ableton Live, or similar music production software
- Familiarity with DJing or beat making workflows
- Understanding of basic song structure and music production techniques
- Introductory knowledge of podcasting and media production
- Experience teaching or mentoring youth
- Ability to work with students in grades K–12 (primarily teens)
- Strong classroom management and facilitation skills
- Ability to encourage creativity and support diverse learning styles
- Strong communication skills (email, phone, and in person)
- Ability to manage multiple programs and projects simultaneously
- Ability to work in a fast paced and evolving environment
- Strong collaboration skills and willingness to contribute to program development
- Ability to assist with recruitment and outreach efforts
- Willingness to represent Tech 25 at offsite events, workshops, or school visits
Additional Requirements:
- Reliable transportation and valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass required background checks
- Strong reliability and punctuality
